Where to next? Sicily calls again

There is something about Sicily that keeps drawing me back, and lately its Sicily’s satellite islands that have captured my imagination. This summer I visited the Egadi chain on the west coast (Favignana was nothing short of paradise). Next up on my list will be either Pantelleria in the south or the Eolian islands to the north.

 Oftentimes, the decision of where to go is made when I come across a hotel that makes my heart skip a beat, and I think I’ve found one on the Eolian Island of Lipari. Hotel Carasco is everything I love in a hotel. Charming midcentury Italian style, perched on a seaside cliff, whitewashed, and sun drenched. Simple, elegant, and very Mediterranean.

The Eoilian chain, a volcanic archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea comprised of six main islands, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is the place to go for peaceful serenity, beaches tucked into turquoise coves, and sundrenched vineyards. To get there, it’s simply a hydrofoil or ferry from several major southern Italian ports, including Palermo, Reggio Calabria, Messina and Napoli.
